The Artist's Way course is structured as a 12-week program, with each week focusing on specific themes and exercises. It incorporates a combination of practical techniques, creative exercises, and spiritual principles to foster self-discovery and personal growth. The Artist's Way emphasises the importance of self-care, nurturing one's inner child, and cultivating a sense of playfulness and curiosity. Commitment and curiosity. For the online course, you will need two journals, one for the workshops and one thick A5 lined journal for your morning pages. A copy of the book is not included, you may wish to purchase this separately.

  • Our courses tend to attract every kind of woman! We have an incredibly diverse range and each group is different. We often have millennials, corporate/business women, mothers (of babies, kids, teens and adults), students, pensioners and even celebrities! We welcome highly experienced artists and women who are entirely new to art. We have women of all races, religions, sexualities, cultures and we welcome women from across the globe to participate online!
The main thing these women all have in common is a keen interest in creativity and the arts. You will sometimes find yourself more inspired by the stories of the women you meet in our groups, than the content of the course itself! Many of our past attendees have gone on to form strong friendships here.

  • The Artist’s Way is a commitment to yourself, as well as an investment in yourself. From week one, we will tap into daily rituals and weekly practices, for three months. However, this course is not facilitated with an all or nothing/non-negotiable/militant attitude, we don’t want to push anyone beyond their limits or place guilt on anyone; the course is led with acceptance and allowing. Each week will look different, with some being easier or less busy than others. Generally, the commitment we would ask for a week is about 5 hours, including the 2 hour workshop. As with most self-development, the more you put into this, the more you will get out of it.

  • No problem! If there are any absences/holidays during the course, the weekly course material can be sent out via email to be completed remotely. We do not provide refunds for absences or drop outs once the course begins as this is an incentive to stay on the course and complete it - there are no exceptions. If there are extenuating circumstances such as serious illness or family emergencies, you may be offered the chance to pick up the course again for free with a new intake.

All levels of creative ability are welcome. We believe everyone has the capacity to be creative and an artist. This course is all about helping you discover and recover your inner artist. If you don’t currently see yourself as particularly creative or artistic, or maybe you haven’t tried since you were younger, this course will help you find the creative heartbeat within you and unblock your capacity for self expression.

Yes - this is a safe space for all women, this is really important to us. We operate with a non-judgmental and accepting environment with strong boundaries in order to encourage self-expression and creative freedom. Everything said within the course is kept private and confidential, unless there is a safeguarding concern. We have a strict policy on disrespectful, discriminatory or disruptive behaviour - if anyone compromises the safe space of the course they will be ejected immediately without a refund. However, this is very rare. Our attendees play the key part in the enjoyment, fun and power of the experience. Most attendees leave with a brand new group of like-minded and supportive friends.

  • The Artist's Way works by combining various tools and practices to help individuals tap into their creativity and overcome creative blocks. Here's an overview of how it works:

Morning Pages: One of the foundational practices of The Artist's Way is the daily practice of writing morning pages. Every morning, participants are encouraged to write three pages of stream-of-consciousness thoughts. This practice serves as a form of "brain drain," clearing the mind of clutter, self-doubt, and creative blocks. It helps participants gain clarity, access their subconscious, and unleash their creative potential.

Artist Dates: The Artist's Way emphasises the importance of nurturing one's inner artist through regular artist dates. These are solo outings or activities that participants engage in to replenish their creative well. Artist dates can involve visiting museums, exploring nature, attending concerts, or simply indulging in activities that bring joy and inspiration. These outings help participants connect with their passions, interests, and artistic influences.

Weekly Themes and Tasks: The course is structured as a 12-week program, with each week focusing on specific themes and tasks. These themes and tasks are designed to address different aspects of creativity, self-reflection, and personal growth. Participants engage in various exercises, reflections, and creative tasks related to the weekly theme. This structured approach helps participants deepen their self-awareness, confront creative fears, and develop creative habits.

Self-Exploration and Healing: The Artist's Way encourages participants to explore their past experiences, beliefs, and emotional wounds that may have blocked their creative expression. Through journaling, reflection, and guided exercises, participants uncover and address limiting beliefs, fears, and self-sabotaging patterns. This process of self-exploration and healing promotes personal growth and frees up creative energy.

Accountability and Support: Participating in our group provides a sense of accountability and support as participants share their experiences, challenges, and victories. The course also emphasises the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals who understand and encourage the creative journey.

By incorporating these practices, The Artist's Way helps individuals develop a consistent creative routine, gain clarity on their artistic aspirations, and build confidence in their creative abilities. It fosters a mindset shift, allowing participants to embrace their creativity fully and integrate it into their everyday lives. The ultimate goal is to unblock creativity, nurture artistic growth, and live a more authentic, fulfilling, and creative life.

The Artist's Way incorporates spiritual principles but is not tied to any specific religious or faith tradition. While the book does mention concepts like God, the Higher Power, and spirituality, Arts Sisterhood facilitation prefers to present the course in a more broad and inclusive way that can be adapted to individuals of various belief systems, including atheists.

The spiritual elements in The Artist's Way are more focused on connecting with one's inner creative spirit, intuition, and a sense of something greater than oneself rather than promoting a specific religious doctrine. The emphasis is on personal growth, self-discovery, and nurturing creativity, which can be approached from a secular perspective as well.

Julia Cameron, the author of The Artist's Way, encourages readers and participants to interpret and adapt the material to suit their own beliefs and needs. The concepts of spirituality in the course can be seen as tools for self-reflection, inspiration, and accessing inner resources rather than requiring adherence to a particular religious framework.

Therefore, as an atheist, you can certainly engage with and benefit from The Artist's Way. You have the flexibility to interpret the spiritual aspects in a way that aligns with your own worldview or focus more on the practical exercises and techniques offered in the course. The primary goal of The Artist's Way is to support individuals in nurturing their creativity and personal growth, regardless of their religious or spiritual affiliations.

  • Whether or not The Artist's Way is worth it depends on your personal goals, needs, and interests. Here are a few factors to consider:

Creative Unblock: If you're feeling stuck, experiencing creative blocks, or struggling to tap into your artistic potential, The Artist's Way can be a valuable resource. The course offers a structured approach to unblocking creativity, fostering self-expression, and overcoming self-doubt. The tools and practices provided can help you reconnect with your creativity and develop a consistent creative routine.

Personal Growth and Self-Reflection: The Artist's Way is not just about creativity; it also emphasises personal growth and self-discovery. The course encourages participants to explore their fears, limiting beliefs, and emotional blocks, which can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself and personal transformation. If you're interested in self-reflection and personal development, the course can provide a valuable framework for that.

Community and Support: Engaging in The Artist's Way individually can be beneficial, but participating in a group setting can enhance the experience. Joining a community of like-minded individuals can provide support, accountability, and the opportunity to share experiences and insights. If you thrive in a collaborative environment or appreciate the encouragement of others, participating in a group can be valuable.

Commitment and Consistency: The Artist's Way is a 12-week program that requires dedication and consistent effort. It involves engaging in daily practices like morning pages and weekly exercises. If you're willing to commit to the course and invest the time and energy required, it can be a transformative experience. However, it's important to assess whether you're ready and able to make that commitment.

Flexibility for Adaptation: While The Artist's Way has a structured format, it can be adapted to suit your needs and beliefs. You can tailor the course to your own creative goals and interpret the spiritual elements in a way that aligns with your worldview. This flexibility allows you to make the course work for you, regardless of your religious or spiritual background.

The value of The Artist's Way depends on your individual circumstances and goals. If you're seeking to unblock your creativity, foster personal growth, and explore your artistic potential, it can be a worthwhile investment. It provides tools, practices, and a supportive framework to help you on your creative journey. However, it's important to consider your personal preferences and commitment level before embarking on the course.
